Congratulations, Ninjas of CoderDojo Athenry!

2 Jul

On Saturday 3o June 2012, we had our first belt-awarding session in CoderDojo Athenry, a week after setting the ninjas the challenge of earning their first belts.

We had a great attendance of ninjas, parents and mentors. We awarded a total of 55 belts: 45 yellow belts and 10 white belts, in the form of USB wristbands. All were awarded according to the agreed CoderDojo procedure for awarding belts — thanks to Graham and all at CoderDojo Drogheda for leading the way with this.

Thanks a million to Alan Mongey, Principal of Gairmscoil Mhuire Vocational School in Athenry, who arranged the purchase of the belts and funding for them. Thanks also to Morelli’s Family Restaurant in Athenry who sponsored pizza, chips and other food on the day, and to Ciarán Cannon TD, who co-sponsored the day and who was also instrumental in getting CoderDojo Athenry up and running in the first place.

We are also very grateful to all of the mentors who come along week after week to support and help the ninjas. And lastly, of course, thanks to the ninjas and their families who attend CoderDojo Athenry every week and have made it a success.

CoderDojo Athenry is now taking a break for the summer, and will re-start in September. Members, make sure to watch out for emails announcing its return.

Well done, everybody!
